Scored the day TickerTown launched on Hacker News (Show HN), straight off our public free score tool — same 10-point grid as a paid audit, no contact with the founder.
01Friction map
Three things to fix first
Ranked the same way every paid audit ranks issues — by what a stranger notices first.
Proof — 2/10
“TickerTown is a really fun simulator! I especially like the backtesting and ‘run the math’ features.” — all four trader quotes are captioned only by role (“Designer”, “Indie builder”, “Founder” ×2), no name, no company, nothing checkable.
Fix: Name the players (first name + a verifiable number, e.g. “+12% simulated return”) directly in the HTML instead of role-only captions.
Next step — 5/10
“Free to play. Beginner friendly.” sits right under the “Play TickerTown” button, but the actual mechanic — “Sign in with email and play!” — only appears in the FAQ near the page bottom.
Fix: Put the real next step next to the CTA itself, e.g. “Play TickerTown — sign in with email, no download.”
Audience — 6/10
“Arguably the most fun stock market simulator.” — the H1 names no one; “beginners” only shows up in the FAQ and the page title, not in the hero copy itself.
Fix: Add a line under the H1 naming the buyer, e.g. “For beginners who want to practice investing without risking real money.”
